The Complete BTT & FTT Study Plan: How to Use Our Free Question Bank Category by Category
With over 1,000 free practice questions split across BTT and FTT, it's tempting to just hit "Start Test" on All Categories and see what happens. That works fine as a diagnostic — but it's not the fastest way to actually pass. The smarter approach is to work through our question bank in a deliberate order: small, focused categories first, then the big mixed pools, then full timed mock exams that mirror the real test.
Here's a structured plan built around our exact category breakdown, so you always know exactly what to practice next.
Step 1: Start With a Diagnostic Test
Before following any study order, take one test from All Categories at 25 questions with no prior revision. Don't worry about your score — this single test tells you which side of the exam (BTT or FTT) and which topics need the most attention, so the rest of your plan is based on your actual gaps, not a guess.
Phase 1: BTT — Work Through the Small Categories First
Our BTT bank is split into nine categories. The smaller, focused ones are the fastest way to build real topic mastery, because you're not getting distracted by unrelated questions in the same session:
- Seat belt - 2 second rule (11 questions) — small enough to fully master in one sitting.
- Blind Spots / Road Safety / BTT-General (16 questions)
- Ambulance, Bus Lane, Zig Zag lines (18 questions)
- Right Lane / Traffic Lights (18 questions)
- Alcohol - Road Safety (21 questions)
- Flood - Headlights (21 questions)
- Lane Discipline and Overtakings (21 questions)
- Rules and Regulations (24 questions)
Work through each of these categories individually, one or two per session, using the 10 or 15 question count so you can review every answer before moving on. Repeat any category where you scored below 90% until it's solid — there's no limit on attempts, and every question set refreshes, so repetition only helps.
Phase 2: BTT — The Full Question Pool
Once the small categories feel solid, move to Car Driving - the Basic Theory Test (BTT) ALL Questions FREE! — our largest BTT pool at 364 questions. This is where topics mix together the way they will on the actual test.
- Start with the 25 question count to keep sessions manageable.
- Once you're consistently passing at 25, move up to 50, then 100.
- Track which questions trip you up and note whether they trace back to a specific category from Phase 1 — if so, that's a sign to revisit it.
Phase 3: BTT — Full Mock Exam
Finish the BTT phase with a realistic mock: select All Categories, filter to BTT-related content, and run the ALL (1025 Question) pool for as long a session as you can manage, or use 100 questions timed back-to-back if you want something closer to actual test length. Treat it like exam day — no pausing, no looking anything up mid-test.
Phase 4: FTT — Work Through the Competency Sets
Once BTT feels solid, shift to FTT. Our FTT bank is organised around five focused categories before the big pool:
- FTT Alcohol (21 questions)
- FTT Clutch / Centrifugal Force (Competency 1) (19 questions)
- FTT Competency Questions Set 2 (20 questions)
- FTT Competency Questions Set 3 (19 questions)
- FTT Competency Questions Set 4 (20 questions)
FTT questions test judgement and scenario reasoning more than memorisation, so go slower here than you did with BTT — read every explanation, even for questions you got right, since the reasoning behind a correct answer is exactly what the real FTT is testing.
Phase 5: FTT — The Full Question Pool
Move on to Car Driving - the Final Theory Test (FTT) ALL Questions FREE! — 412 questions covering the full range of FTT scenarios. Follow the same climbing structure as Phase 2: 25 questions until comfortable, then 50, then 100.
Phase 6: FTT — Full Mock Exam
Same approach as Phase 3, but on the FTT side: a full-length timed run using the 100 or ALL question count, done in one sitting, no interruptions.
Phase 7: The Final Mixed Review
In the days right before your actual test booking, run one or two sessions on All Categories with the full ALL (1025 Question) pool. This mixes BTT and FTT content the way your own revision naturally will as the two overlap in your memory, and it's the closest our platform gets to full exam unpredictability.
Why This Order Works
Small categories first means you fix specific weak spots while they're still isolated and easy to diagnose. The big pools then test whether that knowledge holds up when topics are mixed. Full mock exams last make sure format and timing aren't a surprise on the actual test day. Jumping straight to the ALL Categories pool from day one — which is what most learners do — tends to bury your weak spots inside a huge mixed set, making them much harder to isolate and fix.
